Style Tips for the Modernshopgirl: Tribal Print

Tribal print is everywhere this spring/summer season and here at Modernshopgirl we are no exception. We love the fresh patterns and new color combos. There are so many fun ways to wear this trend; here are some tips to embrace the your inner indian princess without the feather headdress.

#1 – Keep the print small if you are daring enough to try Lucky Brand’s head to toe tribal print dress. The small geometric patterns and darker colors keep the look simple but chic. Add sleek and modern jewelry like Dogeared’s long Karma necklace and silver bangles. An easy earthy tote completes the look.

#2 – You don’t have to match, just compliment. We paired Free People’s tribal print skinny with a Michael Stars navy tank and Lucky Brand’s lace trim cardigan in oatmeal. The tank brings out the dusty blue in the pants and the cardi gives the look a relaxed vibe.

#3 – Add a neutrals! Ella Moss’s tribal print cold shoulder top has flare to spare. Rich & Skinny‘s Coronado crop in sand keep the look simple and keeps the focus on the print. Again we went with sleek modern jewelry. A gold cuff and layered chains are the perfect pair.

Modernshopgirl: Inspired by Coachella 2012

Here at Modernshopgirl we are loving all the easy bohemian fashions inspired by Coachella. Cut off shorts, hippie accessories, rock star tees and gladiator sandals; we adore it all! For those of you who didn’t score those coveted tickets, we put together a little  list of what to wear whether you are going to “carpoolchella” to Indio or just rocking out at home.

- Tie your hair back! Keep comfy and cool with Natural Life’s bracelet/hair tie with inspirational words. Be Happy. Believe. Peace.
- Free People’s festival tunic is a must have for any Coachella inspired outfit. Wear it over a swimsuit or pair with Lucky Brand’s Riley cut off short.
- Trek around in these gilded gladiator sandals by Gomex, just $39!
- It is hot in the Coachella Valley! Keep the sun off your face in Michael Stars straw fedora.
- Grab a Joia Navajo printed scarf for a nomadic inspired look.
- No bohemian look is complete without layer jewelry. Build your own necklace with Nashelle’s initial & jewel charms. Add Dogeared’s 3 ring long Karma necklace and a Chan Luu Turquoise wrap bracelet and you are set.
- Sleeveless band tees are essential! Our fav is Chaser’s Slayer over-sized tank.
- Finally, snatch up Natural Life’s hemp cross body bag with a earth-centered sustainable message.

Weather Ready!

We don’t get a whole lot of rain or winter weather here in sunny Orange County but that doesn’t stop us from dressing the part! Pick up one of the many fabulous and cozy sweaters we have from brands like Splendid, Michael Stars or this pictured Free People fair isle cropped sweater. Throw on a pair of comfy Splendid leggings and pair with a pair of chic warm rain boots and you are ready for whatever weather may come your way!

Staff Poll – How Will You Wear Burgandy?

Burgundy Sweater

Burgundy has emerged as a hot trend this fall season and Modernshopgirl had to ask our staff, how will you wear burgundy this fall?

Sacha / Store Manager, Newport Beach

I’m being honest I don’t wear a lot of color in the fall, so burgundy will probably be an accent color for me. I’m loving a necklace with gold and burgundy paired against something chocolate or maybe a burgundy scarf.

Sarah / Store Manager, Aliso Viejo

I would love to accessorize with burgundy.  For example a really cute floppy hat, it just makes an outfit pop!

Shea / Visual Merchandiser

I love colored denim and chords, specially our J Brands. However, I know this bold trend isn’t for everyone. A great way to downplay this look is burgundy tights. They look adorable paired with a dress or under shorts and are more affordable for shoppers on a budget!

Jenn / Sales Associate, Aliso Viejo

I cant wait when fall comes to wear skinny burgundy cords, brown boots, & the super soft Splendid cowl-neck sweater I have my eye on at the store!
