Designer Spotlight: Blee Inara

Ivonne Kino went from stay-at-home mom to successful entrepreneur in 2000. The result is the soulful jewelry line, Blee Inara, a company motivated by her spiritual outlook on life. Blee Inara was inspired by Ivonne’s first child when her mother, who lives in Mexico, gave her an eye charm. Her baby was to wear it for protection. This tradition fascinated friends in Ivonne’s community. Before long, she started selling jewelry with eyes to her neighbors and friends, all her earnings Ivonne sent to her mother. She started I Accessories after realizing the importance for people to find meaning in the jewelry they buy for themselves and others. She designed and operated it for 8 years. Blee Inara is the result of Ivonne’s continued efforts to offer that elusive combination of beauty, comfort and design. Her jewelry is clearly inspired by a sense of harmony, bliss, goodwill and peace.

Modernshopgirl: Inspired by Coachella 2012

Here at Modernshopgirl we are loving all the easy bohemian fashions inspired by Coachella. Cut off shorts, hippie accessories, rock star tees and gladiator sandals; we adore it all! For those of you who didn’t score those coveted tickets, we put together a little  list of what to wear whether you are going to “carpoolchella” to Indio or just rocking out at home.

- Tie your hair back! Keep comfy and cool with Natural Life’s bracelet/hair tie with inspirational words. Be Happy. Believe. Peace.
- Free People’s festival tunic is a must have for any Coachella inspired outfit. Wear it over a swimsuit or pair with Lucky Brand’s Riley cut off short.
- Trek around in these gilded gladiator sandals by Gomex, just $39!
- It is hot in the Coachella Valley! Keep the sun off your face in Michael Stars straw fedora.
- Grab a Joia Navajo printed scarf for a nomadic inspired look.
- No bohemian look is complete without layer jewelry. Build your own necklace with Nashelle’s initial & jewel charms. Add Dogeared’s 3 ring long Karma necklace and a Chan Luu Turquoise wrap bracelet and you are set.
- Sleeveless band tees are essential! Our fav is Chaser’s Slayer over-sized tank.
- Finally, snatch up Natural Life’s hemp cross body bag with a earth-centered sustainable message.

Style Tips for the Modernshopgirl: The Maxi Skirt

Another installment of Style Tips for the Modernshopgirl! This week we are styling the maxi skirt and our favorite is the Lani foldover one. Soft jersey and a fold over waist band makes for easy breezy styling. The best thing about this skirt is that anything goes! We went with spring’s current trends; a chambray button up, a coral dolman, and tribal inspired tee.

#1 – Free People‘s slightly distressed chambray button gives this skirt a casual vibe. We paired it with Free People‘s lace bralette for a little peek-a-boo look and a matching necklace. Knot the blouse to add shape and emphasize your waist.

#2 – Coral is the color of spring! We styled the skirt with our favorite Michael Stars short sleeve dolman. Add a belt and long necklaces for boho chic.

#3 – Join the tribe! Chaser is always California cool. We love this headdress tee with Michael Stars’ cream shrug. With turquoise necklaces and Chan Luu‘s wrap bracelet you will be ready summer.

Get to know – Love Heals Jewelry!

Just arrived at our Fashion Island location, Love Heals Jewelry! Love Heals is one of our fav jewelry lines and we are so excited to have it back in the store. This beautifully designed line is the creative inspiration of a mother, daughter, and son team. Adrianna, Elisa, and Gunnar say that they were inspired to create beauty and have a business intimately rooted in philanthropy. They have worked with such charities as Greener Ethiopia – Tree Planting, Vitamin Angels, and Generation Rescue. The family believes that each piece of jewelry sold is a partnership with you, the customer, to create a more beautiful, compassionate world. Here at Modern Romance/Modernshopgirl we love being able to be a part of that dream.
